The Giardino di Vigliano farming establishment was created thanks to the love and the ability of our ancestors many generations back; in the last thirty years, it has been re-valued and brought back to its former splendours thanks to the immense passion of Giuseppe Nunziata, descendent of the estate’s proprietors, and of his family, wife and children, who have been trapped in the turbines of the passion towards their land.
Over the last ten years, thanks to the agriturismo, to the organic methods of agriculture and to the adoption of the IGP guarantee mark, the company has evolved and has become the jewel in the crown of our district. The farm is located at Massa Lubrense, renowned as the Terra delle Sirene (Land of Mermaids), but above all as the land of lemon cultivation. The "Giardino", this is what we call the lemon groves of our area, extends for two hectares which are completely cultivated with the Sorrento limone ovale lemon, oranges and mandarins.
We also produce citrus fruit marmalades, including a lemon one which is certified as organic, vegetable, and oil and we rear small animals and pigs. The cultivation of lemons in our area was typically characterised by the use of pergolas of chestnut wood, built to protect the plants during the winter months, and by a typical straw covering (pagliarelle) constructed with rods of chestnut wood (chierchiere) and hand-cut straw. In the last decade, due to the scarcity of workers and to the prohibitive costs of the materials, the pergolas have been substituted with semi-metallic structures, sometimes having an environmentally catastrophic impact... but our company has resisted, as few others have, and has maintained the original characteristics.
As an agriturismo company, we were born in 1997 and can boast the licence number one of the municipality of Massa Lubrense. We have rooms with fantastic panoramas with a view over the Gulf of Naples and Vesuvius and a mini-suite with terrace private looking over Capri and a kitchenette. We are lucky enough to be in a very central zone as far as excursions are concerned, being right next door to Sorrento, Capri, Pompei, Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, and Salerno.
